How can I set up my modem that leads to a router thats not in use via usb on my iMac?
Okay so I have a modem that takes internet through my cable provider via tv cord, whatever its called, and then sends it via ethernet to my router that then broadcasts it in wifi form. Well all the lights on the modem light up (Power, Enet, Recv, Sync, Ready) except for (Send) abd ofcourse USB isnt lit because it has no one using it via usb. Since it isnt sending the internet to my router, I want to just connect to the modem via usb on my mac. And I need to know how to plug it in, and set the mac up for it to connect to the internet. Thank you so much.
On your Mac you have an ethernet connection on it, use it to connect to your wifi router in the back you do not have to use a USB cable, all you need is an ethernet networking cable they are $11.00 at Walmart, you probably have one laying around the house already. to convert from ethernet to USB you need a special converter from Radio Shack a special USB cable with two male connections on it. It is not cost effective to do it this way, using USB. Go with the ethernet cable, your Mac will find it automatically and you will have faster downloading, and browser speeds, running ethernet, and it is more secure, better then wifi.
