Modem Motorola Chipset
A look at what is currently available on eBay
What is "Early non-VGA device" ?
I recently installed a PCI dial-up modem D-Link DFM 560IS (some 7 years old) in my PIII 866 Mhz Win98 SE system. At the first instance after booting, the system didn't recognize the modem. But after some try, I successfully installed the driver (Motorola SM56 Modem) for the modem and was able to dial and connection was made. But when I restarts, sometimes the modem does not work properly and sometimes it shows the message "A new hardware found - Early non-VGA device". Now each time this message shows, I will have to uninstall the driver and re-install it. Again, sometimes it works and sometimes it won't. I have never met any such problem with my PCI LAN card. What could be causing the problem?
My system information:
Microsoft Windows 98 4.10.2222 A
Genuine Intel x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 10
256MB RAM
Intel 810e chipset, Intel 82810E Graphics Controller
Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG, BIOSDate: 09/25/01
Before VGA was common, there were number of non-VGA display adapters available.
Monochrome
Hercules Monochrome graphic
CGA
EGA
PGA
and host of other non-standard types
My guess is that your LAN card is using the interrupt or memory space common with these cards. Can you adjust your network card to use different address/IRQ?
